I interned at IIT Kanpur over the summers of 2015. As part of the Media Center team, I contributed towards building the mobile website of the campus from ground up.
Design
The site was designed to be simple to use with the most visited links being accessible with a single click. A side navbar wasn’t suitable because it created extraneous interactions. The solution was to use Quick Access buttons placed prominently on the home page.
I implemented a navigation drawer using Javascript to provide the easy access to links like Webmail, News, Institute Overview, etc. This was the first time I worked with PHP. Using PHP, I created an internal tool to provide status updates to newly registered students which was done by sending automated emails.
Experience
Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city life was a calming experience. The campus even had its own Airstrip where I enjoyed a small ride in a light aircraft.
It was an amazing experience to intern at one of the most prestigious colleges and work with the best minds in the country.
